555 Timer IC Tester

NE555 Timer IC  is very popular and one of the most commonly used components in electronics circuits. NE555 Timer IC is also called Ideal IC since it offers multiple features like multipurpose functionality, low power consumption, small size, and durability.

When we work on a particular project and it doesn’t work the way we wanted, before the circuit we doubt whether the IC used, is working or not. More or less, blaming IC is reasonable since IC is the combination of many more components or IC itself is a combination of circuits. Here is the simple but effective 555 timer IC tester circuit which checks IC NE555 whether it is faulty or not.

Working of  555 Timer IC Tester

In the circuit, IC NE555 itself is used as an astable multivibrator mode. Switch SW1is pushed for power supplies that charge the capacitor C1  through the resistor and variable resistor R ­2  which trigger IC and high output is obtained from pin no. 3 which glows LED D2  (LED D1  off).  Similarly when the capacitor is discharged the output becomes low and LED D1  glows (LED D2  off). The on and off of LED in the sequence is in practice until the power supply, this means there is no fault in IC. But if the LED doesn’t follow the ‘on and off’ pattern at regular intervals, then there is a fault in IC.
